Hello and welcome to the blog. Today I will be writing about my skin care consultation with Gemma (IIAA) Aileen (The Vintage Beauty Box, St Andrews based in Sophie Butler Hairdressing).
First of all, I will be giving some information about a South African brand called Environ. There are so many skin care products out there and easily accessible but what makes Environ different from these?
Environ has been created through science, beauty and care. With the use of science, Environ have created products that do make a huge difference to our lives. Most importantly helping to keep skin looking at its healthiest. Environ aim to keep skin beautiful for life.
Since 1990 Environ has been developing scientific beauty solutions and now they have over 140 products that sell worldwide. Their innovation has led to recognition and recommendation by industry professionals, film stars and supermodels. For example, many members from The Only Way Is Essex trust and use these products.
Environ was founded by DR Des Fernandes a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh. He pioneered using vitamin A in cosmetic products to help counteract the harmful effects of the environment, pollution and stress. Vitamin A works to revitalise damaged or weaned skin giving a more healthier look. This development was discovered through extensive research.
Environ believes that skin has a life and in order for it to look beautiful and healthy it requires vitamin A. They have combined vitamin A with other essential skin nutrients such as antioxidants and peptides. This skin science helps your skin look and feel healthier.
In order to assist skin in becoming more comfortable with increased levels of vitamin A Environ created the vitamin step-up system. This is a gradual process where products with increasing amounts of vitamin A are used as the process progresses. Studies have shown that 98% of women in the United Kingdom are depleted in Vitamin A. Vitamin A also known as retinyl palmitate is essential for the growth of new and healthy skin cells. Environ has been clinically proven to treat the epidermis to treat the living skin cells far deeper than ANY other cosmetic available on the high street.
Environ has a range of products for various requirements. The results from the skin care consultation are used to tailor the Environ products specifically required for the individual. In addition to the skin care products Environ has a range of instruments and devices that can be used in conjunction with the skin care products to further improve your skins overall look.
Through my modelling work I met Aileen Wallace-Edgar, a professional makeup artist and former trainer for the IIAA. She has worked within the beauty industry for over 10 years based within various salons and five star resorts. She has worked at London Fashion Week and at the BBC. She can now be found working in The Vintage Beauty Box located within Sophie Butler hairdressing, St Andrews. As you can see Aileen has a lot of valuable experience and insight knowledge of Environ having worked for the brand and also met the founder. Aileen personally invited me to come to the salon and experience the brand Environ. I honestly was so excited and really looked forward to embracing a new brand. This would also be my first time having a facial done with a machine! Various thoughts and feelings crept into my mind but all very positive ones.
When I arrived at the salon I was met by both Aileen and Gemma for my skin care consultation. Gemma and I had an informal chat about my skin and lifestyle to form part of the skin care analysis. This is an essential part of the process to gain and understanding of your skin.
I was a little bit nervous about the next stage as it involved my skin being photographed in various ways. This included the three layers of the skin (The epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. The dermis, beneath the epidermis, contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands. The deeper subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) is made of fat and connective tissue).
The Three layers of the skin.
The process itself was painless and involved me not having to move from the comfort of my seat. All I had to do was place my jaw on the jaw rest and make sure that my eyes remained closed (as there was a bright flash). It is also important to add that you are not allowed to wear any make up for this procedure. It was crucial for you to remain as still as possible only for a few seconds. Even although I was apprehensive as this procedure was new to me I did however find the technology very fascinating. Instantly the results were in and in front of me. Now my nerves were beginning to kick in- what were they going to find? Surprisingly I shouldn’t have been worried as my results came back better that I had expected. See images from my actual consultation below.

UV Spots- Damage to the melanocyte cell from UV exposure resulting in pigmentation. Important note to add that it doesn’t take freckles into consideration.
I was also very lucky enough to be giving a mini facial taster session. Aileen was very patient with me and explained everything that was going to happen during the facial. As this was my first time having a mechanical facial I honestly didn’t know what to expect. Again, it was the fear of the unknown that took over me but as a beauty blogger I am always open to new products and techniques. In fact, I was really looking forward to it at the same time. As any facial goes you are lying down and made sure you are comfortable (Aileen has a heated bed – which was simply amazing). All the products that were recommended to me from the skin analysis were used. Aileen used the mechanical instruments to let me get a feel for how effective it was having the facial done this way. It was such a great experience and one that I would definitely do again. Once you have it done this way a normal manual facial just doesn’t have the same effect. You can really feel the products working and going deeper into your skin. I would also mention that it feels more clean as you aren’t getting someone else’s fingers all over your face. I liked the various sensations you felt with this type of facial. From using the mechanical equipment on my face there were moments where you could feel vibrations which didn’t hurt at all and another time when my eyes were closed I could see flashing lights that had a strobe effect. Again, it didn’t cause me any side effects or discomfort. Aileen also mentioned that I might get a metallic taste in my mouth which I never experienced. Throughout the whole facial I felt very relaxed and calm. Aileen is a true professional and made my time at her salon a great experience.
After the facial, Gemma kindly did the 1 minute make up challenge with me using products from Jane Iredale. She wanted to show me how quick and easy it is to apply this make up which doesn’t block pores. The coverage from the makeup was good and it felt so light weight on my skin. Right enough it didn’t take long at all to apply the mineral based products.

I found the images from the Visia analysis quite astonishing. It gave me a clearer understanding of my skin. I would highly recommend you all to undertake and experience this revolutionary process. Not only does it give a very clear and non-biased view of your skin but it also highlights what products are required to help your skin become more healthy.
